An extra set of clothes may be a good idea for this one, parents! Aside from having water balloons thrown, there will be science! From water balloon physics force and motion science experiments, to guesstimating and measuring for fun experiments and challenges such as, does salt water make a difference in a balloon than fresh water, does one float? From filling balloons with water and leaving them to freeze overnight to carefully be cut open to reveal the beauty inside. Kids learn about crystallization and the expansion of water as it freezes. Activities such as: water balloon painting, don’t pop the water balloon, water balloon races, water balloon dodgeball, etc. Hypotheses will be formed before experiments, allowing students to think outside of the box and testing out their theories safely. Is a completely full balloon more or less likely to pop than a not so full balloon? Do air bubbles in the balloon make any difference in how easy the balloon will pop? Does temperature? Water balloons are a fun part of summer. They provide a chance to get wet and cool off in the heat of the sun. But by asking some questions and doing a few experiments, it can also be a chance for kids to utilize their science skills while school is out!
