Students engage in environmental science, leadership development, and outdoor education while strengthening applied math, technical reading, and reflective writing skills. Campers analyze trail maps, calculate elevation changes and distances, interpret safety guidelines, and engage in structured leadership challenges that require strategic decision-making. This academy emphasizes career readiness in outdoor recreation, environmental science, conservation, and adventure leadership fields. Students develop risk management awareness, teamwork, situational analysis, and resilience — key competencies for careers in outdoor guiding, park services, environmental education, and recreation management. Students will embark on a field study at Lee Canyon throughout three visits during the week, where they will explore mountain biking fundamentals, conservation practices, and risk management strategies in an alpine environment.
